We were hoping that the tabernacle would be on its way by now, but we’ve been told that because of a mix-up over stone deliveries there’s going to be a delay. It should be ready before Crossrail opens, however.
In the meantime we have been given a (low) pedestal on which to place the (old) tabernacle behind the altar. As it isn’t as secure as required in Canon Law, the Blessed Sacrament will only be reposed there during Mass. At other times we will continue to use the safe in the sacristy. The doors will be open to indicate when Our Lord isn’t present.
Spot what is missing. Next week Ormsby will be installing a new tabernacle behind the altar and completing their work on the Lady Altar. Meanwhile, the Blessed Sacrament is Reserved in the sacristy. Parishioners and visitors may wish to limit their reverence before the altar to a bow until the refurbished tabernacle is in use.
Good news! This week sees the start of work to create a new home for the tabernacle behind the altar and to enable the Lady Altar to house the existing tabernacle. There will be disruption which we will try to keep to a minimum.
First Day is 6th of August
Mary, Queen Assumed into Heaven, I rejoice that after years of heroic martyrdom on earth, you have at last been taken to the throne prepared for you in heaven by the Holy Trinity.
Lift my heart with you in the glory of your Assumption above the dreadful touch of sin and impurity. Teach me how small earth becomes when viewed from heaven. Make me realize that death is the triumphant gate through which I shall pass to your Son, and that someday my body shall re-join my soul in the unending bliss of heaven.
From this earth, over which I tread as a pilgrim, I look to you for help. I ask for this favour: (Mention your request now).
When my hour of death has come, lead me safely to the presence of Jesus to enjoy the vision of my God for all eternity together with you. Amen.
