OUR COMMON HOME: ENGAGING POLITICIANS

6:30pm, Monday April 13th 2026 – Online

Caritas Brentwood would like to invite you to an online gathering offering guidance and help in engaging our local politicians in dialogue about defending our common home.

Bishop John Arnold will be opening the meeting and Siân Thomas-Cullinan (Caritas Brentwood Director) will be facilitating. Please find full details below, along with a poster attached.

With the May local elections fast approaching, now is an important time to let politicians know your views on climate and justice. Following a meeting with the Catholic Diocesan Environment Leads of England and Wales, an alliance of organisations has come together to offer parishioners guidance on key environmental issues and to help them engage local politicians in dialogue about defending our common home and safeguarding the dignity of all our brothers and sisters.

Also this month we are excited to begin our Caritas Conversations. A set of online meetings where we come together to reflect on how the ministry of charity is lived out across Essex and East London. These meetings are open and free to parishioners, clergy, school staff, catechists, young adults and those actively engaged in social justice, offering space to connect, share good practice and learn from one another.

29th April | 18:30Refugees & Migrants
6th May | 18:30Environment
13th May | 18:30Homelessness & Cost of Living

The Conversations will feature voices from both a national and local perspective and there will be time for discussion, as we explore how best practice can be lived out in our homes, local parishes and throughout our wider networks.

Your voice matters. These sessions are an important opportunity for us to listen to you (the communities and partners at the heart of our work). You can help us better understand the challenges faced across the Diocese and how we can respond together, inspired by our faith.

Whether you’ve joined us over the past three years, or this will be your first online Caritas Conversation, you are warmly invited to take part.
