Pilgrimage to Fatima August 2024

A Journey of Faith: Pilgrimage to Fátima – A testimony by Ana & Steven
From the 30th of July until the 3rd of August, together with our parish priest, Fr. Barto and our parents we embarked on a spiritual journey. We travelled through the Carmelite Route, a lesser-known but deeply enriching pilgrimage route from Coimbra to the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima. The route is inspired by the experience of Sister Lucia, a Carmelite nun who, as a child together with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco, saw and spoke to Our Lady.
The Carmelite Route full of serene landscapes and deep spiritual resonance, led us through picturesque rural areas, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the beauty of Portugal’s countryside.
Before each stage of the route we pondered on a reflection from Sister Lucia and as we walked, nature provided a tranquil backdrop to our prayers and reflections. Each day of the journey offered moments of profound connection. We took time to appreciate the presence of God in nature and within each other. The route was very challenging, yet in those moments of fatigue and perseverance, we felt the strongest sense of community and divine guidance.
During our pilgrimage, we carried the intentions of our fellow parishioners of St. Anne Line Church, as well as those who had requested our prayers. Upon reaching the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, our hearts were filled with gratitude. Once there, we took the opportunity to attend confession and adore Our Lord at the Chapel of the Sacred Sacrament, where we offered thanks for our safe journey and the spiritual renewal we experienced.
The culmination of our pilgrimage was an evening mass at the Basilica, co-celebrated by Fr Barto, creating an indelible memory of unity and faith. This pilgrimage was more than a physical journey; it was a powerful testament to faith and fellowship. May our experience and our prayers inspire others in our parish and encourage them to embark on their own spiritual journeys and deepen their connection with God.
