Important Information re Photography and Filming on Church premises
Data Protection
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 and Data Protection Act 2018, all personal data, including images (photographs and films for example), must be processed fairly and lawfully. To comply with this, we are bound to issue a privacy notice and inform you when:
- Photographs and films will be taken
- Why they will be taken
- What will be done with them
- Who may see them
- Any non-obvious consequences; for example, if the image from photographs and films is going to be used on a website, in a newsletter, or on a televised programme.
We will also request your consent before taking photos, as follows:
On informal occasions (such as Parish social events) our policy is to request subjects’ verbal consent before photos are taken of them or of their children (under the age of 16) or of vulnerable adults for whom they are responsible.
On more formal occasions (such as First Holy Communion services or Confirmation services), our policy is to request subjects’ written consent before photos are taken of them or of their children (under the age of 16) or of vulnerable adults for whom they are responsible.
Parishioners are welcome to take their own photos or videos at such parish events, whether informal or formal. However, parishioners must not post on any social media platform any photos or videos that include images of any children other than their own or of vulnerable adults for whom they are responsible.
We will retain some photos in a parish archive and will contact you to seek consent in the unlikely event we wish to use any retained photo for another reason than that expressly stated in this document.
We will take care to record photos that respect the dignity and wellbeing of each individual and will use secure storage and encryption technology.
We recognise that some individuals may not want their photos taken or kept and we will always respect this. If, however, you have previously given consent to a photo but later wish to withdraw consent, you may do so at any time by notifying the parish office and they will arrange for the relevant photo (whether of yourself, or a child or vulnerable adult for whom you are responsible) to be removed from the parish website or social media pages.
Should you have any concerns about the manner in which we handle your information and are not able to resolve these satisfactorily with us, please contact the Information Commissioner for advice and to report a concern.
