The Fourth Sunday of Lent is traditionally known as “Laetare Sunday,” with “Laetare” meaning “rejoice” in Latin, taken from the entrance antiphon for the day. This Sunday marks a brief pause in the penitential character of Lent, inviting believers to rejoice in the coming celebration of Easter, even amidst the somberness of the Lenten season.
In his encyclical, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis encourages us to “Rejoice and be glad” (Mt 5:12). He also says The Christian life is “joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom 14:17).
