Our Ecumenical Walk of Witness was held on Good Friday (29th March) beginning at 12pm in George Lane and attended by members of St Anne Line, St Mary’s Woodford, the Woodford Methodist Church and the Salvation Army.
We were blessed with good sunny weather and enjoyed together the opportunity to proclaim Christ to our brothers and sisters in South Woodford. This began, for us, with the carrying of a plain wooden cross from St Anne Line into George Lane whilst reciting the rosary led by Rev Alan. We marched down to meet our friends from other churches in the area.
The crowd of around 40 or so gathered close to the roundabout in George Lane and enjoyed readings from scripture led by the various ministers of each Christian group represented there. We also had the opportunity to join in a number of hymns together.
After the final prayer and sending forth we were free to depart back to our homes before, for many of us, coming back to church in the afternoon for the Passion of the Lord. It was noticeable, however, that many stayed behind to chat with their friends not only from St Anne Line but also from the other churches.
It felt like a very good and special occassion. As we began to leave one person made comment that he had fulfilled a dream by being there. His dream was to proclaim Christ in public. It was good that we could do that all together.
